Longing by Matthew Arnold
Come to me in my dreams, and then
By day I shall be well again!
For so the night will more than pay
The hopeless longing of the day.

Come, as thou cam'st a thousand times,
A messenger from radiant climes,
And smile on thy new world, and be
As kind to others as to me!

Or, as thou never cam'st in sooth,
Come now, and let me dream it truth,
And part my hair, and kiss my brow,
And say, My love why sufferest thou?

Come to me in my dreams, and then
By day I shall be well again!
For so the night will more than pay
The hopeless longing of the day.

Reflection

This poetry has content about the man who had longing to has someone special in his life. He dreamed the woman whom cares about his fate. He always hopes every time. He always hopes the woman of his dreams will come in his life. But unfortunately, his longing was hopeless. I think this poetry is easy to understand. The content of this poetry is simple and common. The content of this poetry has similarity with the fate of my friend. He wants to have a girl friend that can fill his days. But he just hopes. He didn't try to seek his love. He is shy and he wasn't has bravery to try it. And up to now, he doesn’t get the woman of his dreams.
